Guided Tasks

Aspen's Guided Tasks assist users when performing tasks in Aspen that may require multiple steps across several screens. The fundamental idea is that complex processes such as starting to build next year’s schedule, or rolling over to the new school year during the summer, often leave users wanting help to make sure they are completing the steps properly, not skipping critical steps, and making configuration choices according to best practices. Guided Tasks accomplish precisely these goals.

With many features in Aspen, there are on-screen functions as well as reports that may be quite useful when performing certain tasks, such as preparing for the collection of grades at the end of a term. Since these tasks may be unfamiliar to users since they are only done a few times per year. Guided Tasks point users to a particular feature, function, or tool that may be helpful in configuration or setup and help users understand how and when to use them.

Guided Tasks are also useful for providing users with district-specific information such as how local policies dictate the way certain screens or functions should be used. Any Guided Task, whether provided with a new release or developed locally or through the user community, can be customized to include precisely the information required for users in a particular district.

Guided Tasks will be provided through new releases and also through the Aspen user community as districts explore and discover how to use this exciting new core feature in Aspen.

Some examples of how Guided Tasks can be used include:

  • Prepare for grade reporting
  • Set up online course requesting
  • Prepare for year-end transition
  • Prepare to build a schedule
