Define District (Root Organization) details

When you implement Aspen, you need to edit the details for your root organizationClosed an entity that contains one or more schools. You can only have one root organization set up in Aspen. All other organizations are intermediate organizations.

To define your district’s (root organization) details:

  1. Log on to the District view.
  2. Click the District tab.
  3. On the Setup side-tab, click Details.
  4. Use the following table to complete the fields:
  5. Field Description

    Follett customer ID

    Identifier

Type the identifier for the district.

    Name

Type the district’s name. This name appears at the top of every page in the system and on every report.

    Phone 1, Phone 2

    Type the district phone numbers.

    Address line 1,
    Address line 2,
    Address line 3

    Type the district addresses.

    Time zone

Click the Time zone drop-down to select the time zone that most closely matches the time zone for your parent organization.

Note: This will usually be the time zone where your server is located and acts as the default time zone for the system. Intermediate organizations will default to this time zone if a time zone is not specified in the organization's details. If time zones are not set for the root organization or intermediate organizations, the server's default time zone is used.

  1. Click the SIF Configuration sub-tab to define your district's SIFClosed an open-standard specification that allows school software applications from different vendors – such as student information systems and library automation software – to interact and share data details.
  2. Click Save.

Note: In Aspen's online Help, 'District' is frequently used for the root organization, which is the default name of the organization. However, you can change the name of the root organization on the Admin tab >Organization Definitions>Details. You can also name all Intermediate organizations here. These names become the tab and view names.
