Set a course section to use positive attendance

As a school administrator, if your district or intermediate organization has not required all courses in your school to take positive attendance — in which all students are presumed absent by Aspen unless marked present by a teacher or staff member — you can still set specific course sections to use this attendance method through the Master Schedule tab.

This feature can be useful for schools offering classes that require participants to be confirmed present at a set number of sessions.

Notes

  • You can also specify all courses in your school to use positive attendance.
  • You cannot take positive attendance in Aspen Mobile at this time. If staff members attempt to take positive attendance in Aspen Mobile, they will receive a warning message with a link to the traditional desktop version of Aspen. From here, they can proceed to take positive attendance for the course.

To set a course section to use positive attendance:

  1. Log on to the School view.
  2. Click the Schedule tab, Master side-tab, then Sections. The Master Schedule page appears:
  1. Search for the course section or sections you want to set to use positive attendance.
  2. On the Options menu, click Modify List. A pencil icon Edit icon. appears above each field, or column, that can be edited.
  3. In the PosAttendance field, click Edit icon. . A checkbox appears for each course section in the column.

    Notes:

    • If you do not see the PosAttendance field, click the Field Set menu Field set menu icon. . Either select an existing field set that includes that field, or add the PosAttendance field to your current field set.
    • If Edit icon. does not appear above the PosAttendance field, your district administrator needs to enable this field for list editing.

  1. Select the checkbox(es) for the course section or sections you want to set to use positive attendance.
  2. Click to save your changes. If you do not do this before moving to a new page, all of your changes will be lost.
