Create course packages

Create a course package to quickly enter requestsClosed courses that students have requested to attend for the next school term for a group of courses several students must take.

For example, assume freshmen at your school must take three core freshmen courses (Health, Family Science, and Keyboarding). You can create one course (F101) and include all three courses within it. This way, when you enter the request for the F101 package, the system automatically enters a request for all three courses within that package.

Note: Before you can create a course package at your school, you or an administrator must create a course with the package Master type in the District view. To do so, log on to the District view, and click the Schedule tab. On the Options menu, click Add, and create the new course with the Mastertype of Package.

To create a course package for your school:

  1. Log on to the School view.
  2. Click the Schedule tab.
  3. Click the Courses side-tab.
  4. Find the course package you created in the District view, and click Details.
  5. Define all information for the course, including the courses you want to include in the package in the Course package field. To enter the courses, enter the course numbers, separated by commas.
  6. Note: You can enter only courses with a Master type of Class in the Course package field.

Important: For this package to affect the percent requested on the Requests page for a student, you must type the combined periods per cycle in the Periods Per Cycle field for the package course.

  1. Click Save.

Now, counselors or other users can use the course package to enter requests.

When you go to the Build view, Global tab to view student requests on the Requests side-tab, click Expand Packages on the Options menu to list all of the courses within a package individually on the student’s list of requests.

Note: After you expand course packages on the Global tab, you cannot delete the course package from a student’s list of requests and assume the system deletes the associated courses. Once you enter a request using a course package, the system removes the courses from the package, and can no longer link the two.

You can also click Collapse Packages on the Options menu to list only the course number of the package on the student’s list of requests.
