Student Special Education Statuses

In addition to the enrollment status every student has in Aspen, a student that is enrolled in the Special Education view also has a special education status.

As you update information on a student’s special education workflowClosed a method of coordinating multi-step processes involving one or more users, the system automatically updates the student’s special education status. Go to the Student tab, Details side-tab to view a student's special education status.

The four student special education statuses are:

Referred

  • The student is enrolled in special education, but is not on an active IEPClosed Individualized Education Program. The student's Draft IEP is currently in progress.
  • A teacher or parent has concerns about a student and the student will possibly go through the testing process to determine if he or she is eligible for an IEP.
  • When a student has a Referred status, special education users can edit the student's Draft IEP.
  • The student is in the process of being considered for special education services, but the IEP is not active.

Ineligible

  • The student has been referred and tested, but has been determined to be not eligible for special education services at this time.
  • The student can be referred to special education in the future, if needed.

Active

  • The student has gone through the testing process and is found eligible for an IEP.
  • The student is on an Active IEP and is receiving services.

Exited

  • The student is not on an Active IEP. The student might have exited the special education process because of withdrawal from the district or school, graduation, aging out, or the student or parent request for the student to be taken off the IEP.
  • Exited students can be referred in the future.

Note: If you have special privileges, you can override a student's special education status.
